Margin & Markup Calculator

Calculate profit, markup percentage, gross margin, and selling price from cost and pricing targets. The calculator clearly separates margin from markup and updates locally as values change.

Markup vs. Margin: What's the Difference?

Markup measures profit relative to cost. Gross margin measures profit relative to selling price. A product costing $70 and selling for class="container" id="tool-page"00 earns $30 profit, which is 42.86% markup but 30% margin.

How the Pricing Modes Work

Cost plus selling price calculates profit, markup, and margin. Cost plus desired markup calculates the required selling price. Cost plus desired margin uses Selling price = Cost ÷ (1 − Margin decimal) and also shows the equivalent markup.

Common Pricing Uses

  • Retail and wholesale pricing
  • Ecommerce product profitability
  • Manufacturing and landed-cost reviews
  • Service and project pricing

Calculation Limits

Desired margin must be below 100% because the selling-price formula would otherwise divide by zero or produce an invalid result. The calculator does not include taxes, marketplace fees, shipping, discounts, or overhead unless those amounts are already included in the cost you enter.
